The Splintex horse care range offers two topical treatments for splints in horses. Splintex offer formulations for both new (hot) and older (cold) splints. Splints manifest as swellings and bony enlargements located on the splint bones on both forelegs and hindlegs of horses. In the early stages of development the splint may be invisible but can reveal as a painful swelling accompanied by heat and lameness. They are caused by damage to the ligaments which hold the splint bone to the canon bone. Known causes of splints include nutrition (namely mineral imbalance), excessive weight, work on hard and uneven surfaces, unbalanced hooves, and conformation.
