At Houghton Country we are premium stockists of LeMieux, including their impressive range of leg protection. Many horses wear boots or bandages as part of their every day routine - whether it's boots for exercise or turnout, bandages for schooling, or therapy boots to aid circulation and healing, LeMieux horse boots come in such a wide variety of styles and materials that you are sure to find the right pair for your horse here.
LeMieux brushing boots are a popular and economical choice for hacking or flatwork, while tendon and fetlock boots are generally used for showjumping. Bandages, often used with a pad or gamgee underneath, to prevent uneven pressure points, are often chosen by dressage riders for schooling. Over reach boots help to prevent the horse from pulling its shoes off or catching the bulbs of the heels of the front feet, and are commonly used both during turnout and exercise. With a design for every requirement, LeMieux's boots and bandages come in a selection of colours from very traditional to bold and bright to match the rest of your LeMieux set! LeMieux offer a huge range of each type of leg protection available, from the traditional to the eye-catching and unique.
What size LeMieux boots should I get my horse?
Different styles of LeMieux horse boot fit slightly differently, so it is worth consulting the size guide for the product in which you are interested. It is important that boots fit correctly - boots that are too small but are forced into fastening will put pressure on delicate structures within the lower limb, which can cause irreversible damage. Boots that are too large will slip down which is likely to be very irritating to the horse and could cause injury if they were to trip. Boots that are too big may also cause rubs. When considering the best size boots for your horse, it is important to consider both the length of boot so that it does not restrict the knee or hocks bending, and the width around the canon bone.
How do I clean my LeMieux bandages and boots?
LeMieux bandages and most boots designed for exercise and turnout can be machine washed at 30 degrees and left to dry. Velcro fastenings should be fastened before washing to help preserve them. Therapy boots such as magnetic boots, ice boots and cold water boots should not be machine washed, and can be carefully wiped down.
Are LeMieux boots competition legal?
There are many rules from British Showjumping, British Eventing and the FEI surrounding which boots are permitted for which classes. Boots are not permitted in the ring for dressage, but are permitted in the warm up. It is worth consulting the rulebook for the sport in which you are competing before going to your show, as wearing non-legal boots can result in elimination. Unaffiliated events are usually run to the rules of the affiliated governing body of the sport in which you are competing - i.e. unaffiliated showjumping will usually be run to British Showjumping rules.
Which LeMieux boots are suitable for travelling a horse?
We would recommend travel boots for travelling a horse to provide full protection. Brushing boots or tendon and fetlock boots, as well as over reach boots, can be worn while travelling and will offer some protection, but have not been designed for this purpose. Some riders choose to bandage for travelling as an alternative to travel boots.
Do LeMieux boots come as a pair?
LeMieux boots come as a pair unless otherwise stated. Most designs of bandages come as a set of four.
