The Shires Brass Alloy Pelham With Lozenge Bit is a type of bit often used to help with control. The Pelham was designed to combine the actions associated with a double bridle in one mouthpiece, the top rein acts on the lips, tongue and bars with the lower (curb) rein acting downwards on the lips, tongue, bars and poll and the curb acting on the curb groove. The lozenge softens the nutcracker action which can be found in some single jointed bit. Brass alloy is made when copper is combined with a harder metal to produce a warm and durable mouthpiece that can help encourage salivation. Pelham's are in the show ring, for cross country, show jumping as well as hacking.
